What happens if you light a cigarette/pipe with the blue part of the flame?

I was about to smoke a cigarette earlier and it was windy so the blue part of the flame in the lighter got on my cigarette. My friend quickly yelled and said "stop! you're smoking the gas part of the flame.. you're getting the gas on your cigarette and then smoking it when it lights" I thought this was rediculous but I'm just checking. Isn't that just another part of the flame? Lol.. is it harmful to smoke that. And dont say "smokings bad anyway" I'm just saying is this extra bad? Haha
